On a sweltering hot day at the end of the summer of 1989, on July 24th to be exact, at a ceremony in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, Mid West Radio was launched and to date has been a story of extraordinary success. That success can be monitored in the JNLR surveys carried out at six monthly intervals by the Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC), which is the controlling authority for local radio.
